Joplin Historical Neighborhood Museum
Step back into Joplin’s past at the Joplin Historical Neighborhood Museum. From beautifully restored Victorian homes to immersive exhibits that bring early Joplin stories to life, this museum offers a fascinating look at the people, architecture, and history that shaped the city.
Guests will experience a multimedia tour developed during the restoration, where voices from the past carry the early history of Joplin, the two families, the dialect of the era, and the strict etiquette of late Victorian America.
Highlights include:
A multimedia show: In “A Slice of Joplin History: Eavesdropping on a Formal Dinner Party,” guests listen in as the Schifferdecker and Zelleken families campaign to fund Joplin’s St. John’s Hospital.
On site virtual tour: Six monitors playing at once show guests the entirety of both homes, sight and sound, with full captioning, a perfect solution for less mobile guests.
Integrated with Bloomberg Connects: A full self-guided tour runs through the free Bloomberg Connects app, fully narrated, covering every room and the museum grounds.
It’s a must-see stop for history lovers, architecture fans, and anyone curious about Joplin’s roots.
