Santa Claus Fly-In

This special event commemorates Santa Claus’s memorable 1949 arrival in Joplin. That year, Santa delighted the community by coming to town in a bright yellow Piper Cub airplane. The reason for his airborne journey was simple—Santa’s elves were busy preparing his reindeer for their upcoming journey around the world on Christmas Eve. With his sleigh team otherwise engaged, Santa chose this unique method of travel to ensure he could check on Joplin’s preparations for his annual visit.
