Emancipation Days celebrates freedom while promoting unity and cultural diversity. This is achieved by promoting the preservation of African American history with education, music, dance, visual art, food, crafts, and more.

The Emancipation "Park Days" Celebration is held in Joplin's Ewert Park and has been going on since at least 1914. The celebration is the oldest and largest cultural event held in Joplin. The historical celebration is always held the weekend closest to August 4th bringing awareness of the 400 year struggle and resilience of African Americans throughout slavery.

Emancipation "Park Days" is a full 3 day community event that includes guest speakers, performing artists, gospel music, a car show and youth activities, in addition to food, dance, and exhibitors. All elements of the event incorporate African American culture, and bring a diverse and dynamic experience to the community.

This event is open and free to the public and everyone is welcome.
