George A. Spiva Center for the Arts

Spiva Center for the Arts

Spiva Center for the Arts was originally founded as the Ozark Artists Guild. It grew into a community arts center through the support and advocacy of George A. Spiva, a Joplin businessman, philanthropist, and arts patron.

Originally settling in a local historic home and later at Missouri Southern State University, it is now located in the historic Cosgrove Building in downtown Joplin. The facility includes three galleries, two classrooms, a gift shop, and an art library/community meeting room. Its Main Gallery features exhibitions by national and internationally recognized artists and the Regional Gallery features the work of emerging artists from a 150-mile radius of Joplin. There is also the Upstairs Gallery for rental by area artists or to feature work from Spiva's special programming.
