Paint the Ozarks Plein Air Paint-Out
September 8, 2023 to September 10, 2023
Join regional artists as they paint in plein air, capturing the beauty of Joplin - its bluffs and banks along Shoal Creek, the power of water flowing over Grand Falls, and the allure of our parks and our historic buildings and homes. Painting in plein air is about quickly capturing a scene in the changing light and shadows of the day or night. A painting workshop will be held Friday, September 8, led by national award-winning plein air painter Larry DeGraff of Kansas City. The 24-hour competition will begin Saturday, September 9, and conclude Sunday, September 10. Participants' fee for the paint-out is $35 ($25 for members of Spiva Center for the Arts and the Joplin Regional Artists Coalition). Free for the public. More than $1,000 in cash prizes, plus purchase prizes, will be awarded, and an exhibition of the works will be held during the remainder of September at Spiva Center for the Arts. The event is presented by Spiva Center for the Arts. Watch for coming information or phone Spiva Center for the Arts, 417-623-0183, or email mpchurchwell04@yahoo.com.
