Remembering D-Day Exhibit: The 75th Anniversary of the Normandy Invasion.

Date: June 11 - July 31, 2019
One of the most amazing events in history is the 1944 landing on the beaches of Normandy. It was the largest seaborne invasion in history against Hitler's impregnable Atlantic Wall defenses. It seemed a long shot at best. Taking over a year of planning, coordinating 10,440 aircraft, 6,330 ships, 153,110 troops, and 14,000 vehicles, entailing joint timing by land, sea, and air forces, and requiring total secrecy, it seemed destined to fail. But the tides off the Normandy coast would be perfect in the first week of June. The wheels of the invasion were set in motion.
The countdown to D-Day had begun. Now if only the weather holds…

The Joplin Historical & Mineral Museum is proud to exhibit Remembering D-Day: The 75th Anniversary of the Normandy Invasion.

This exhibition will open to the public on June 6th and remain on display through August 31st.

Admission to the museum for this exhibit is $3.00.
