|Over the river’s bridge on the corner of 86 and NN highways rests the oldest continually operating business in Newton county – they’ve served beer since 1868. Because Redings Mill stands just beyond city limits, they attract bikers and middle class, visitors and townies all to relax both indoors and out on their year-round patio. You won’t find trouble or bar fights here – the new owners created new menus full of open-faced roast beef sandwiches, house-smoked meats, and fried chicken. Redings Miill Inn makes everything from scratch: from their ranch dressing to their hand-breaded mushrooms.
John Shelton Reding (1816-1892), built this home, inspired by the design of Spanish missions, in what was then known as Shoalsburg Township in Newton County, Missouri, close to Joplin.
In the 1930s the family made it the site of a resort and restaurant. It has been passed along under different ownership through the years and is the area's OLDEST operating bar and grill.
