Convention and Visitor's Bureau Grant Information



The Joplin Convention & Visitors Bureau (JCVB) has set aside $100,000 of the 2010 budget for funding the marketing of events exhibiting positive tourism potential to the Joplin area. These funds are to assist qualified organizations with the promotion of tourism activities striving to directly increase hotel/motel occupancy and create positive image building publicity for Joplin.

Applicants must be not-for-profit organizations, museums, attractions or other tourism entities seeking to produce and promote a well-defined tourism-oriented festival and event. A maximum of $20,000 can be awarded per event. Example of events that received funding in 2009 (and their sponsoring organization) are listed below.

  • OCC Preaching Teaching Convention, Ozark Christian Center
  • PhotoSpiva, Spiva Center for the Arts
  • JoMoPro, The Bridge
  • BirdFest, Wildcat Glades Conservation & Audubon Center
  • Boomtown Days, Boomtown Days
  • Boomtown Days Run
  • Dogwood Trailblazers Walking Club Pre-convention Walk
  • MSSU Homecoming, Missouri Southern State University Alumni Association


    Applications packets are available below for download. Please note, FY10 application requests for funding are for events scheduled November 1, 2009 through October 31, 2010.

    • April 20, 2009 – grant applications available.
    • April 20, 2009 – June 26, 2009 – mandatory meeting with JCVB Director of Sales.
    • July 2, 2009 – grant applications due.
    • July 21, 2009 – presentations and application scoring.
    • July 31, 2009 – JCVB Director submits funding recommendations in writing to Joplin City Manager and requests to be on Joplin City Council meeting agenda in order for them to approve grants.
    • By November 1, 2009 – grant awards announced.
